Organize Your Office to Stay Productive
When it comes to a busy office, not everything will stay organized. If you really knew how much time a messy office cost, however, you may think twice about the disorganization. A neat and orderly office space clears the way for a more productive business.
Organizing your workspace doesn’t have to take all of your time. It can be done little by little. Consider the task of organizing your office as a small ongoing project.
If you are ready to de-clutter and transform your workspace into an efficient place to work, the following tips will help you get a head start.
Purge Your Workspace
First things first, get rid of everything that you don’t need. Look around the office. What haven’t you used in a long time? Start with your desk and move on to other areas such as closets, the kitchen, and other workspaces. Go ahead and start shredding, emptying, and throwing away any items you find that won’t be used in the future. This also goes for furniture, appliances, and other décor that, if removed, gives the office an organized and clutter-free appearance.
Label – EVERYTHING!
It is important to establish a place for everything. Gather up every item that isn’t where it belongs and put it in its happy little home.
Once you find a happy home for all of your items, take the time to label everything from bins and baskets to drawers and shelves. This will not only motivate you to put items back in their assigned places when you are done using them, but will also help everyone else in the office know where to find what they are looking for quickly. Purchase a good label maker that is simple to use and easy to access, and get to labeling!
Not only is it important to keep your physical workspace organized, but keeping your digital workspace organized is just as important. As we move further into a digital age, the need to store paper files has decreased. Eliminating paper by saving documents in a digital folder on your computer or online will help save space and reduce clutter. Make sure, however, as you switch into the digital sphere that your organization efforts switch with you.
Start by backing up and deleting any documents and programs that you no longer have need for. Once you have all of your data files cleaned up, it’s time to organize them. Take it one folder at a time, and start putting files in an order that makes sense. Consolidate existing folders so they fit into your new more organized file structure. Don’t hesitate to use lots of subfolders; the more folders you have the easier it will be to organize and find specific documents.
Straighten Your Desk
The amount of time and effort you put into keeping your office organized will pay off in the long run. Instead of spending time looking for certain things, or feeling stressed about all the clutter, you can focus on the most important part of your job – working!
